Whenever I watch a Hollywood classic, along with the timeline and the mood of the film, the fashion too, catches my attention. Some of the iconic and timeless pieces from that era keep inspiring people to date. In fact, Met Gala 2021's theme was 'Old Hollywood' and a lot of celebrities wore couture based on this. For instance, Kendal Jenner's dress was inspired by Audrey Hepburn from 'My Fair Lady'. As someone who loves to dress and keep up with the latest fashion trends, here are some of my favorites.
Rita Hayworth's Black Dress from 'Gilda'
This dress was love at first sight for me, since it gives off some serious femme fatale vibes! Inspired by 'The Portrait of Madame X', it was designed by Jean Louis and cost around $60,000. Apparently, it was designed with the motive to illustrate extreme sexuality in women and it did play the part.
Anita Ekberg's dress from 'La Dolce Vita'
This is one of the dresses that had me going 'I want one!'. It has a sweetheart neckline and a layered overskirt with a contrasting underlay. Chef's kiss is what I'd call this <3 Tbh, this dress and the Trevi fountain scene made me watch the movie in the first place :P It was designed by the Fontana sisters who contributed a great deal to the world of fashion.
Audrey's Polo T-shirt from 'Funny Face'
I can write a book on Audrey's outfits from 'Funny Face' but I am gonna stick to this black polo t-shirt for now. It was designed by Givenchy and it makes one look chic and smart. Apparently, Angelina Jolie wore something inspired by this in her recent shoot for British Vogue.
Lauren Bacall's dress from 'How to marry a millionaire'
This is one of the many beautiful outfits from this movie. It's a simple, evening 'date' kinda gown that every girl would love to have in her wardrobe. It was designed by William Travila and Lauren Bacall would have carried the attire so well.
Grace Kelly's ring from 'High Society'
This ring inspired me so much that I went and bought myself a new diamond ring :P Since Kelly had to wear a big diamond ring in the movie, her then-fiancé Prince Rainier, gifted her a 10.48-carat ring which is touted to be one of the priciest jewels. It is a large emerald-cut diamond supported by two baguette-cut side stones designed by the Cartier.
These are some of the fashion pieces that I loved watching on-screen while being sunk in the world of the '50s and '60s. Do you have some favorites as well? Let me know in the comments :D
